The following is from Mama - I had her send me the exact details of Jodie's follow-up with the doctor after surgery - so here it is:
After discharge from UMC on Tuesday, we went to Dr. Yablon’s office for him to set the dose on her pump. The surgeon sets it at surgery, but at a low dose - Dr. Yablon ultimately decides the correct dosage level.
She had another electrical impulse test where they checked her muscles and reflexes (they used the study that was done at the time of the baclofen trial back in December to use as a baseline).
She will see Dr. Yablon and Dr. Lancon again on February 15th. Approximately 10 days later (around the end of February) she will be admitted to MMRC (Methodist Rehab) for 2 to 3 weeks - they will be doing therapy with her and adjusting her dose, this will allow them to set it according to the best therapy dosage.
Everyone who saw her just kept commenting on how good she looks, including Dr. Yablon. He even made the comment that he could not get over how much better she looks now than when he saw her in November.
She has been a little uncomfortable following surgery, as the pump is not tiny - when I saw it on x-ray I was really surprised at the size. It is probably as big as the palm of my hand and as thick – it is made out of metal and it will set off security devices. She has about a 6” incision on the left side of her abdomen and a 2 ½” incision on her back where the wire was inserted into the spinal fluid.
Thankfully Jodie is one tough cookie, bless her heart - she has so many scars from so many surgeries - but that is OK as they tell many stories of just how far she's come. We will continue to pray for miracles and healing.
